A good thing to have

It's a good thing to have in your car, it lets you know what you need to and saves you money in the long run.

Geoffrey

Very handy device and app

The where you parked feature is great. If there's a fault with your car it tells you the problem and give a quote for repair.

Gary

Overall the app is great

The Driving Stats feature shows where you are not so efficient and can help to improve your driving efficiency.

Richard

First booking

The garage picked up and dropped my car back off which meant I could get on with my day. The AA team kept in regular contact with any extras needed to be done & the customer service was excellent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my car be compatible with Vixa?

Vixa is compatible with most petrol cars made after 2001 and most diesel cars made after 2006. Hybrid vehicles are compatible with all features except battery alerts. We do not currently support EVs.

If you have a modern Ford that is FordPass App compatible, you may be able to connect directly, without the Vixa plug-in device.

We’re updating our car compatibility regularly, so if your car isn’t compatible now, it may be in the near future. Sign up to our waitlist to be kept in the loop.

What sort of data do you collect, and what do you do with it?

The Vixa plug-in device gathers data about your car's health, like engine performance, battery life cycle and location (if enabled). Vixa uses this to provide you with car health insights, to alert you about many issues, and to offer you proactive maintenance solutions. We will never share your data outside The AA or sell it. If we make any changes to our policy, we will always ask for your consent first.

For more information on how we handle your data, please read the Vixa privacy notice.

Connecting the plug-in device

What is a car plug-in device?

Think of it as a car monitoring device - a small device that connects to a port in your car called the OBD port (onboard diagnostics) enabling it to run diagnostics. Your plug-in device collects data from sources in your car (such as your engine or battery) and sends it to us. We then use this to understand your car's health and offer proactive solutions.

How do I fit the Vixa plug-in device?

Fitting your Vixa plug-in device is simple and takes just a few minutes. Simply follow the instructions in the Vixa app to fit the Vixa plug-in device yourself:

  1. Locate your OBD (onboard diagnostics) port under your car's dashboard. It's usually near the steering wheel.

  2. Connect the plug-in device to the port. An extension cable will be in the box if your car needs it.

  3. If you’re still having trouble after following the installation guide, let us know in the app, call 0330 053 0466 or contact us via WhatsApp on 0330 053 0913 and we’ll help you find it.

How much is the plug-in device?

The plug-in device is rented to you free of charge as part of your subscription. However if you choose to cancel, it is your responsibility to return the device to us by following the instructions on our returns page.

Can I connect my plug-in device to another vehicle?

If you want to move your Vixa plug-in device to another vehicle, you’ll need to call 0330 053 0466 or contact us via WhatsApp on 0330 053 0913; our team will be happy to help you connect to another vehicle.

I’ve disconnected my plug-in device, can I reconnect it?

That’s not a problem, simply reconnect your plug-in device and it will work as normal, as long as you’re using the same vehicle.

My plug-in device has stopped working, what should I do?

If you think your plug-in device has stopped working, follow these easy steps to reset it:

  1. Unplug the plug-in device from your vehicle.

  2. Leave the plug-in device disconnected for at least 30 minutes.

  3. Plug the plug-in device back in

  4. Check the status of the plug-in device. When the plug-in device has been successfully reconnected, the LED light on the plug-in device will flash rapidly.

  5. After taking a couple of journeys, you'll be able to see updates about your vehicle's health in the app again.

  6. If you’re still having issues, give us a call 0330 053 0466 or contact us via WhatsApp on 0330 053 0913.

Can I connect my car to the Vixa app without a physical plug-in device?

Some Ford vehicles can connect directly without the need for a plug-in device. An Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) connection is a way of getting health data directly from your car. This can be used instead of a plug-in device. The app will determine if this is applicable to you once you sign-up and enter your vehicle registration details (VRN).

What if I'm not an AA member, but want to become one?

If you are interested in becoming an AA member, please visit www.theaa.com where you can find out more about the Breakdown and Insurance products.

Is Vixa connected to my AA breakdown membership?

What is an ‘AA Approved Garage’?

AA approved garages are not owned or managed by the AA - they're either independently owned or part of a franchise group.

We thoroughly inspect each one before it can join our network to ensure it fully meets our quality, service and training standards. This means every garage is trustworthy and AA approved.

We carry out full audits of our approved garages annually, as well as ad-hoc spot checks. Our audit checklist covers:

  • Quality control of all work.

  • Technician qualifications.

  • Professionalism and customer service.

  • Price transparency and invoicing.

  • Vehicle protection.

  • Equipment.

  • Health & safety (including fire safety).
